Chapter ED was organized on November 28, 1973, becoming the 134th PEO Chapter in the state of Florida.
Eight pre-organizational meetings were held from November 1972 through May 1973 to discuss bylaws, meeting times, dues,
and prospective members.
Chapter ED was not an ordinary offspring. Among the 19 charter members were a teacher, a Dean
of Women, a real estate agent, a librarian, a life underwriter, a secretary, a restaurant manager, and a Lieutenant Colonel
in the Women’s Army Corp. Their interests included arts and crafts, music, bridge, speech, golf, bowling, sewing, sailing,
painting, antiques, books, gardening, travel and photography.
They came from Virginia, Minnesota, New Mexico, Washington D.C., Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, New Jersey,
Delaware, and of course, Florida. Eleven of the charter members were dimits that had held PEO offices, including
five that had been president of local chapters. One was a past State President and had donated 40 years to PEO.
They were proud to add the new light of Chapter ED to the bright and lasting light of our PEO Sisterhood.
